MCA and District Standardized Testing
These sections of the IEP covers both state testing (Minnesota Comprehensive Assesment-MCA and SPPS standardized testing (SAT10).

Check the box for the condition under which the student will take the different assessment that is appropriate to the grade level.

Accommodations: List the accommodation(s). An accommodation is an adjustment “outside of the assessment” to assist the student in taking the assessment such as extended time for completing the test, having the test questions read, and/or taking the test in an alternate small group setting. Do not list accommodations if allowed under standard administration of test (e.g., small group administration, etc.).

Exempt: State the reason(s) why the student is being exempted and the alternate assessment(s) that will be used.

Students should NOT be exempted from statewide assessment solely on the basis of:

-Anticipated low scores
-A history of low test scores
-A present of cognitive, physical, sensory, emotional, or communicative disability
-Administrative pressure to exclude
-Classroom or program placement or setting of services (e.g., self-contained classroom)
-Disability category

Students may be exempted if they are incapable of taking a statewide assessment. This should only occur if and when the student is incapable due to:

-Lack of cognitive ability to participate in learning with the subject area
-Lack of exposure to material within the range and scope of the assessment
-Extreme anxiety that would be determined detrimental to the student (this does not include reasonable levels of test anxiety).
