    Students to refer:
    • Students attending neighborhood/magnet schools who have
    medically diagnosed impairments.

    • EVALUATION BY THE TEAM FOR PHYSICALLY
    IMPAIRED CANNOT BE DONE WITHOUT A WRITTEN
    DIAGNOSIS FROM A MEDICAL DOCTOR (MD)

    • When students meet special education eligibility criteria for
    developmental cognitive disability, the DCD Resource/Placement person should be contacted.

    Services: This itinerant team is available to support staff and students in school buildings if there is no licensed person on staff in the building. Team members will be involved when a teacher licensed in PI or DCD is needed for evaluation planning, evaluation writing and the implementation of the IEP.

    2. Audiology
    Students to refer: Students whose school hearing screening results point to possible hearing problems, and students with hearing impairments.

    Services: Audiological evaluation; amplification management

    3. Itinerant Team for Deaf/Hard of Hearing Students
    Students to refer: Students whose audiological evaluation indicates a hearing loss which may be interfering with the learning process.

    Services: Services available to students who are deaf or hard of hearing: academic support and monitoring; amplification management.

    4. Itinerant Team for Students with Visual Impairments
    Students to refer: Students whose Ophthalmological Report Form (from a licensed eye care specialist) indicates a vision loss of 20/60 or greater in the best eye with best correction, a significant visual field restriction or a progressive vision loss. (See Help Sheet for more detailed information.)
    Services: Services are provided by the Vision Team which includes a licensed vision teacher, a personal management specialist, an orientation and mobility specialist and a vocational specialist. This program provides service to students with visual impairments in their home schools. Programming includes modifications and adaptations for mainstream curriculum and instruction in compensatory skills such as Braille, large print, taped text books, travel skills, daily living skills, assistive technology and vocational skills.

    5. Itinerant Team for Students Needing Developmental Adapted Physical Education: Special Education (D/APE)
    Students to refer: Students with an IEP who are not able to benefit from the regular physical education program because of their educational disability and identified motor needs.

    Services: D/APE screening and assessment service plus assistance with IEP development, consultation and guidance to physical education teachers regarding modifications of curriculum (including equipment and materials) to meet the special education needs of students with educational disabilities. Direct D/APE instruction to students determined in need of developmental adapted physical education, based upon formal ASSESSMENT BY THE VISION TEAM CANNOT BE DONE WITHOUT AN OPHTHALMOLOGICAL REPORT THAT MEETS THE MEDICAL CRITERIA.

    6. Early Childhood Intervention Services (ECIS)

    Students to refer: Students from birth to age five who have significant delays in one or more of the following areas: cognitive readiness skills, speech and language, and emotional/behavioral development, motor development, hearing and vision.

    Services: Screening and inter-disciplinary team assessment in all developmental areas, determination of eligibility for special education services, facilitation of enrollment in Early Childhood Special Education programs, periodic follow-up screening and assessment for preschool children and referral to other Saint Paul Public School Early Childhood Programs.

    7. Specialized Transition and Employment Planning Services (STEPS)
    Students to refer: Secondary students attending school in Saint Paul who have IEPs containing goals and objectives for transition.

    Services: This program offers a wide range of career exploration in jobs and job training, home living, community participation, leisure and recreation and post-secondary training and learning.

    8. Amherst H. Wilder Foundation Child Guidance Clinic

    Students to refer: Students with IEP's who may need additional assessment for possible Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD). Referrals to the Child Guidance Clinic MAY OCCUR ONLY THROUGH THE DISTRICT’S SPECIAL EDUCATION DEPARTMENT at 360 Colborne (767-8325).

    9. English Language Learners (ELL)

    Students to refer: Students from kindergarten to grade 12 with linguistically, culturally and/or educationally diverse backgrounds.

    Service: Staff are available to assist in all aspects of evaluation and IEP planning for English Language Learners. Special education interpreters for Hmong, Spanish and Somali are available and must be used in this process.

    10. Augmentative Communication Team (ACT)/Assistive Technology Team

    Students to refer: Students whose limited speech intelligibility does not allow them to communicate effectively and students who are nonspeaking, students who need assistive technology, software and other devices to participate in school.

    Service: • Observation and evaluation of student’s need for an
    augmentative communication system or strategies.
    • Assistance with augmentative communication system design and intervention.
    • Assessments for insurance and medical assistance
    reimbursement for augmentative communication device.
    • Observation and evaluation of need for asssistive technology services, equipment or other accommodation.
