The determination of a student’s federal instructional setting is a component of the IEP team’s decisions regarding services, the location of the services, placement of the student, and the LRE determination.  The IEP case manager must carefully designate on the IEP where the special education and related services are to be provided (i.e. general education classroom or special education classroom), the amount of special education and/or related service in each location, and the type of placement where the student is receiving these services (a regular building or program, special education program or building).

The reporting requirements for federal instructional settings are Setting 01 to Setting 08.

The determination of setting is based on the location of the service and the amount of service in a general education settings vs a resource room or other type of pullout program.

Please see the attached document for an explanation for each of these settings.
